In Philly, the Washington Baseball Team's Patrick Corbin allows 6 ER in 2/3 IP. It's 9-0 Phillies after 2.
The Graphite Standard for rapid decline after a World Series triumph belongs to the Diamondbacks, who went from a title in 2001 to 111 losses in 2004.
#Natitude is probably not going to wind up being that bad, but it may be close. Not even Beer Bong Brett can issue an injunction to stop this one immediately.

The 1915 Philadelphia Athletics want in on that conversation as well. From 99-53 in 1914 to 43-109. Blame the Federal League.

Speaking of the Phillies, Ron Reed and Bake McBride were inducted into their Wall of Fame today. Reed had an amusing story about working with Bob Boone.

Reed said he and Boone were always in sync -- except for one 1979 game in which he came in from the bullpen. He leaned in for the signal -- nothing. He stepped off the mound, stepped on again -- no signal. Finally, Boone took off his mask and yelled out to Reed, "You throw whatever you want to throw. It won't be getting to me."

Reed said Boone pretty much proved to be right; he gave up six runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings. Yes, it was at Wrigley Field, and yes, the final score was 23-22, Phillies.

Generally, the Tigers have made Hall of Fame induction a prerequisite for number retirement (not counting Willie Horton who was Detroit-born and bred), but Whitaker's omission was considered to be so egregious as to cause them to make an exception so they wouldn't have to wait forever.

Meanwhile, the Orioles haven't lost since the trade deadline. A steady diet of Texas and Pittsburgh helps with that, of course, but the fact remains that Baltimore is just one game out of the second wild-card spot. Toronto comes to town for three next week.

Corbin’s rapid collapse and Strasburg’s inability to actually stay off the DL has brought us to where we are today.

I can’t complain about the Corbin signing I agreed with it at the time but extending Strasburg was a huge mistake. You can’t placate boras by being generous with one client to get a discount on another.
