Probably shouldn’t have stopped sniffing glue.

Ohtani. ... best player, but obviously his value makes no difference on a poor team.

Judge. ... best offensive season in years, AL home run record, possible triple crown AND getting his team to the playoffs.

Verlander. ... best AL pitcher this year.

Sorry Ohtani, no mvp or cy young this year for you if I had a vote.

So we’re still using the No Playoffs, No MVP argument? How retro.

What we are doing is considering the quality of the team as part of the equation. I don't think anybody is saying Ohtani is eliminated as a candidate because the team sucks, but it is ridiculous to ignore team success entirely in judging the value of the player.

Defense needs to be considered as well. Judge is an outstanding outfielder. Ohtani is a DH when he isn't pitching.

Was referring specifically to this: "obviously his value makes no difference on a poor team"

That seems to automatically disqualify players on losing teams since their value "makes no difference."

To be fair, he really doesn't make a difference for the Angels on the field. They could suck and miss the playoffs without him just as they are doing with him.

That doesn't mean he has no value, but in that area, he doesn't have as much value as Judge.

The other thing Ohtani's proponents keep ignoring is defense. Judge has started 124 games in the outfield. He has only been the DH 23 times this year.

They better hope it's because everybody's been saving their money for playoff tickets. Just learned that a $20 bleacher ticket in the regular season is $100 for the first round of the playoffs. I'm guessing if the Guardians make it to the WS that would balloon to somewhere around $300-350. The cheapest wildcard round tickets are $70. I may be wrong about this, but it's possible they'll play in a stadium that's half-empty.

FTR, I think Judge is the MVP. But not for "the Angels suck" reasons.

Thank god for the free market.

Can't blame the fans for staying home if that's how management is going to treat them.

Ohtani was unanimous last year and is having a better season.

The same Guardian fans who sold their Game 7 tickets to Cub fans?

    Eff them.
