Of course you do, infielders have been doing this since baseball started, this just makes it easier.

That has absolutely gone on forever. Before video spying was omnipresent, when there was a runner on 1st you would often see the SS and 2B, who had seen the sign from the catcher, lift their gloves to their faces to partially conceal them; knowledge of the upcoming pitch would help determine who would cover second in case of a steal, and they would then look towards each other and either open or close their mouths as a signal to communicate who had the bag.

If I'm playing third against a guy like Judge or Stanton I would certainly want to know when an offspeed pitch he's likelier to crush right at me at life-threatening speed is coming.

"Siri, who hit the first home run of the 2022 postseason?"

That would be a fun read. Yes, I know he was difficult. They definitely had problems in the bullpen. Larry Doughty fixed the shortstop problem with another trade, acquiring Jay Bell from the Indians.

I see that ESPN/ABC made sure to give Michael Kay the most insufferable team possible even though the Yankees have a bye.

Also, Guardians-Rays was the first postseason game to come in under 2 1/2 hours since 1999.

It’s hard to quantify just how it meant that Jose Ramirez chose to stay. It completely changed that Cleveland team the minute he agreed to sign a long-term deal.

Really, it was honest question wondering what I was missing about these guys that it would make one weepy.

Not saying the team shouldn’t give them a nice moment. It’s nice that they did that.

To your point, though, most MLB players are probably considered journeymen. Unless you’ve followed a particular player and liked him for many years, I don’t understand the emotion of watching these two random MLBers (neither of whom spent a long time with one team building fan loyalty) play their last game. It happens with multiple players every year.

There’s nothing wrong with getting weepy about it. I was seeking to understand why. Thought maybe there was interesting story behind it. I didn’t see the moment, so maybe there was just something about it that struck ChrisL. Like I said, not being snarky, just interested.

Not really any reason to get nasty. It was an honest question.

    That’s pretty cool. I didn’t see that.

And daytime playoff baseball on network television, to boot!

IIRC, the trade that pretty much got him fired was Glenn Wilson from the Mariners for Darnell Coles.
Pretty weird trading a corner outfielder for a corner outfielder, across leagues.
Weirder when it's done without ownership approval, as that one was.

I will find the piece later when my magical busy life becomes unmagical and unbusy.

Mariners pregame talked about how important the lefty hitters were vs. Manoah and why Raleigh was moved up to cleanup. Boom!

Big crowd watching at T Mobile. It's a simply beautiful day in the PNW, the weather has been great for the past month or so.
