Well, Cabrera wasn't the best player that year and winning the Triple Crown didn't mean anything in regards to whether he was.

One player has won the Triple Crown in 55 years
    I’d say that means something

As an interesting historical fact because it is rare and can be done by very few. But it is an accomplishment based in part on team factors and doesn't account for not making outs. It is not an absolute determination of who the best hitter is.

Both Trout and Cabrera have MVPs and $$$ so everybody’s happy
Miggy even has a ring — with the Marlins

Give me the guy with the higher OPS who plays in 22 more games, but hey, to each their own. :)

I'll take the player with a higher OPS+ and who played CF rather than the lowest valued defensive position.

After they ban shifts, they should ban MVP arguments.

It's not much of an argument. Cabrera was the better hitter. He played in 22 more games than Trout. His team made the playoffs and Trout's did not. That is a factor whether people like it or not. So was the Triple Crown, again, whether people like it or not. All of that trumps playing a more demanding defensive position. Reasonable people can disagree, but there was no great injustice done. At best, it was a tough call that went to the guy who had things in his favor that appealed to old-school voters.

Oh, and OPS+ is a projection based on a formula. It is worth some consideration, but give me what actually happened over some subjective adjustment every time. (I'm directing that to justglad, not you.)

The value in playing near Gold Glove in CF to being a statue at first cannot be waved away. And any advanced metric had Trout as the better offensive player. We should account for context.

Miggy about to get one more chance in the ninth for hit 3,000 — unless Candelario hits into a triple play.

Or unless he hits into a 1-2-3 double play and they IW Miggy.

The Yankees walked Miggy to a crescendo of boos, then Austin Meadows drove in two runs with a bloop single
