You fail to understand advanced metrics if you think they are projections or subjective. The metrics are thoroughly vetted and are based on what happens on the field.

Being able to play CF as the best hitter is a huge advantage over being stuck at 1B and it makes up for 20 fewer games. It is easier to replace offense at 1B than it is at CF. Therefore, offense at 1B isn't as valuable.

This thread by Posnanski is jaw-droppingly naïve, bordering on childish.

I’ve been a Yankee hater since my neighbor thought Bobby Murcer was the next Mantle, but I knew the moment Candelario rolled into the DP that Miggy was getting walked.

No, because I do understand advanced metrics I realize the factors that the statisticians choose and how they weigh them are subjective. I'm sorry you didn't understand that. When you say they are vetted, that still doesn't make them objective in the way statistics such as home runs or OPS are objective. I'm sorry you didn't understand that, either.

Did that sound snide? Good. You deserved snide. Maybe you are an Angels fan. Maybe you just love Trout. I get that this one is somehow personal to you while my initial response was meant to poke fun, but I'm fine if you want to slug it out. Just understand that the argument you trotted out there, the assumption that anybody who doesn't value a particular advanced metric the way you do doesn't understand it, is tiresome and stupid.

Regarding your defensive point, you make it sound like first basemen don't touch the ball. They do, and quite a bit more than any outfielder. Also, when you are talking about hitters at this level, you can't replace them nearly as easily as just any first baseman or outfielder. You can't easily replace guys like Cabrera or Trout in their primes easily at all, regardless of position. The position issue isn't nearly as big as you want it to be, but keep on trying to prop up poor arguments. I've got the facts and the voters on my side.

I simultaneously love and am frustrated by Posnanski and his writing. The wide-eyed wonder he shows can be refreshing (Buck O’Neil) or make you want to slam your head into a wall (Paterno book) depending on the situation.

Talk about taking it to a ridiculous extreme.

do you believe batting avg and RBI are still top 3 offensive stats like they used to be considered?

Hall of Fame changes its veterans committees setup AGAIN:

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — Baseball's Hall of Fame is restructuring its veterans committees for the third time in 12 years.
The Hall said Friday it is revamping the panels into the Contemporary Baseball Era from 1980 on and Classic Baseball Era for before 1980. The Contemporary Baseball Era will hold a separate ballot for players and another for managers, executives and umpires.

Each ballot will include eight candidates to be considered by 16 voters, down from 10 candidates previously. A vote of at least 75% remains necessary for election.

Starting next January, the player ballot will include candidates who have been retired for 16 seasons — one year after exhausting eligibility for the Baseball Writers' Association of America ballot.

Each committee will meet every three years, starting with Contemporary Baseball/Players this December, Contemporary Baseball/Managers-Umpires-Executives in December 2023 and Classic Baseball in December 2024.

Tigers-Rockies rained out tonight; split doubleheader tomorrow (1:10 and 7:10). Another day wait for 3000.

I figure the Detroit management doesn't want Miggy to get 3,000 until Sunday so they can squeeze out a couple extra sellouts. There will likely be a big walkup for game 2 tomorrow if Cabrera doesn't get a hit in game 1.

Somebody needs to make a sign: "Beau Briske goes for win No. 1 Saturday."

(That's a reference to the day Denny McLain won his 30th in 1968. During batting practice, A’s catcher Jim Pagliaroni paraded around the infield with a homemade sign on his back, which read, “Chuck Dobson goes for No. 12 today.”)
