Could be a while before we see the next to 3,000 hits — unless Robinson Cano catches a second wind at age 39. He's 370 hits away.

Next most possible are probably Jose Altuve, Freddie Freeman, Manny Machado (1,445 hits at age 29) and Mike Trout (1,428 at age 30).

As an aside, let's save the "Trout: HOF or not HOF?" talk to 2033 or so.

Crazy thing is without the suspension, Cano might’ve gotten close.

You'd think once you got to 2,900, you'd try to stick around as long as possible to eke out another hundred. But of the 8 players to get stuck between 2,900 and 3,000, 7 of them are in the HOF anyway. The eighth is Barry Bonds.

Red Sox get two in 10th and the first seven pitcher no hitter is averted

And the Rays push across three in the bottom half and win it.

Do you think many of the "guaranteed HOF" milestones will be reached now with players being delayed by clubs and some not entering the league until they are 22, 23 or 24? Throw in the injuries and the money - you get your big FA contract and unless you are close at the end of that, you probably won't bother to hang on for another six years.
