I have no problem whatsoever with MLB doing this.

I can't believe anyone would actually complain about it.

At the owner's meetings one year at a really posh hotel in Palm Beach, someone said, "Yeah, there's a homeless guy out front."

    Someone said, "It's probably Marvez."

As if on cue, he walked through the door.

Great guy. Great writer. Not so great dresser.

How can anybody bitch about this? It's not like we're being asked to wear a suit and tie. We're just being asked to try and look somewhat respectable.

MLB issues credentials to cover a game. It decides who can sit -- I do believe for free -- and watch a ball game. It decides who can -- again I do believe for free -- who has access to a locker room to talk with players. If as a part of that credential MLB doesn't want you looking like you live in a van down by the river or are getting ready to earn some money on the corner of Third and Main, I think it's a small concession. The whole team logo thing, doesn't that go along the lines of not cheering in the press box thing? Again, I don't see a problem.

I wore sweats to a game twice. Once my luggage had been lost. The other time my hair gel (back when I had hair) exploded in my suit bag. Both times I had flown in the day of the game. I think I apologized to any person who got within 10 feet of me. I was beyond embarrassed both times...

Trying to think if the NFL did this. It's blazing hot at training camp and you stand for 2 hours on the sidelines. In a collar shirt and pants?

Nobody's going to put the journalists in a position where they're sweating like pigs in a coat and tie. That's not happening.

Hey, if I was covering a sandlot baseball tournament on the Fourth of July, damn right I'd be wearing a T-shirt and shorts. And nobody would raise an eyebrow.

Here, they're being asked to dress professionally in a climate-controlled setting. I think they can handle it.

Yeah, I think the unofficial rule in the NFL is "at least dress better than this guy":

And Bill gets a pass because a) he's in the elements, and b) he's batshit crazy.

Plus, they sell T-shirt polos for like $9.99 at Target.

Does anyone here think Red Smith ever went into a pressbox dressed in anything but a suit and tie?
