If Perez is the best pure power guy, then why does he only have the third best OPS? Add to that Rose's two Gold Gloves, his World Series MVP and all of his other accolades clearly put him in front of Perez.

The subject, as I recall, was "feared" hitters. OPS+ measures on-base average and slugging average adjusted by park and league -- one of the better metrics for determining "all-around" hitting ability. Perez is third because he didn't combine getting on base with slugging as well as Morgan and Bench. Rose is fourth because power wasn't part of his game at all.

Also, here are some other World Series MVPs: Don Clendenon, Gene Tenace, Bucky Dent, Darrell Porter, Rick Dempsey, Ray Knight, Frank Viola, Pat Borders, Scott Brosius and, this past year, David Eckstein. It's irrevelant in measuring one player vs. another.

Which hitter in the Minnesota Twins '69 lineup do you think pitchers most feared: Rod Carew, Tony Oliva or Harmon Killebrew?

So your opinion means more than the people who were his peers. Gotcha. Bagwell doesn't sniff the hall. Nor should he.

Guess Tom Seaver didn't know what he was talking about, then.
He always said, for all the ways they can beat you, the one guy in that lineup you fear the most in Perez.

Too bad his production didn't match his reputation.

Well, the Hall of Fame isn't totally about numbers, or even mostly about numbers. It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Math.

So who is going to give Eddie Gaedel's induction speech?

Hey, if he walked every time up over the course of 20 years.....

And I'm sure the pic is indeed on display in Cooperstown. He's in the Hall, in a sense.

Wow. That's a bit harsh. I don't think Bagwell is a HOFer, but he's far beyond woodwork.

The Hall Of Dooley: If You're Not Here, You're Woodwork. :D

If anybody should know what defines woodwork, it's Dooley
