Verlander's thrown 80 pitches through four.

Is it too much to ask that the TV station's get back from the commercial break before the pitch has been thrown. We come back just in time to see Thames ripping that ball down the line.

Thames singles to start the seventh, advances to second on a passed ball, advances to third on a nice bunt by Inge, then scored on Granderson's triple to left, Tigers lead 4-3. Hell yes.

If I hear Joe Morgan say "dead red" one more time, something's getting broken.

Fox is hoping like hell Tigers win, so they get the Yankees for Saturday night.

Good news for the Yankees is that Todd Jones doesn't throw nearly as hard. And that will be who they'll be facing in the bottom of the 9th.

Frankie Rodriguez called to say that he's donating his nickname to Alex.

Zumaya is my favorite player in the majors.

How can soft-tossin' Todd Jones be your closer when you have Zumaya? I have a bad feeling about Jones in the bottom of the ninth.

  9. Here's a quick question for the baseball scribes.

Can a team pick up a player's option and then trade him? I'm thinking specifically of Torii Hunter and Gary Sheffield.

I'm pretty sure they can as long as the player waives any 10/5 rights or apporves the trade.

Yes, if a team has the rights to a player -- which picking up the option would give them -- then they can trade him, release him, or do anything else they want with him ... assuming all other considerations in the contract (i.e. 10-5 rights, etc.) and the CBA are met.

The situation you describe is essentially similar to a sign-and-trade.

Haven't watched a lot of Tigers games this year, but as Phils fanboy, I'm wondering how the fuck you have Jones as closer when you've got a guy throwing onehundredandmotherfuckingthree and is seemingly unhittable.

uhmmm, you'd have to ask the grizzled, crusty, crafty, seasoned, experienced Obi-Wan Leyland that one.

Of course, he's also the guy who has actually played Neifi Perez in several games this year when he actually had living, breathing Major League players to use instead, so take that into consideration.
