KC, Jeter is mostly loved because he came out of the Yankee farm system. That alone bought him some good will. Next was the fact that Jeter made some rather memoriable plays during big games when people were watching most.

The other issue is that A-Rod was one of the two that many pointed to when discussing Jeter's ability (the other was Nomar). Thus, many Yankees fans have an inclination to dislike him for nothing more than having played 3rd base all those years.

Then, you throw in the money aspect and people are going to be turned off by A-Rod further.

    1. By the Yankees, Sheffield and Mussina
    2. A-Rod
    3. Mussina, Cano and A-Rod

(Not very fair to Cano but I'm answering the question.)

Sheffield won a World Series with another team, years ago. That doesn't matter now. We're talking about this post-season.

Mussina doesn't have a World Series ring either, but I don't recall hearing/reading about that.

I only pointed out Cano because he fit in the description. The point is that everybody will focus on one person in a team game.

Pastor, I don't claim to know what each Yankee makes. So are you saying the Shef and Mussina make more than A-Rod combined, or do they both individually make more than A-Rod?

Because Texas is paying half of A-Rod's salary, Sheffield and Mussina, individually, are paid more by the Yankees than A-Rod.

Dude, you root for the Royals, who will never make the playoffs in your lifetime. You might want to remove your lips from around the A.L. Central's junk. So the Tigers won one game? Big deal. The A.L. Central's playoff teams will have won one playoff game this postseason. That's a reason to celebrate. One playoff win between two middle-of-the pack squads. Yip-the fuck--ee.

Mussina is making about $19 million a year. Man, did he sign his deal at the right time, or what (as did Kevin Brown).
That is MORE than the Yanks are picking up of A-Rod's salary. Giambi is around the same, I think. Sheffield not too far behind.

I can't wait for one of those middle-of-the-pack squads to bounce the Yankees this week.

Yup, this is all A-Rod's fault. The stupidity around here is bloody amazing.

Yeah, but the average of the six-year contract was $14-million. So Mussina had to scrape by on less than $11-million for the first two years.

Why hope? It's a hopeless situation. The Yankees are going to win it all. Just accept it; that way, you can enjoy the playoffs for what they are.

I'm a Mets fan, dude. I've accepted the fact that the Yanks are going to have a parade down Broadway in 20 or so days. There's no reason to fight it, to hope that there's a team equipped to beat them. Because, there isn't. The A's can't score enough runs. Slap-single hitting Joe Mauer and the Twins will be dismissed from the playoffs shortly. The Tigers are a nice little story. Now, it's time for them to go bye-bye. The Mets don't have enough pitching. The Dodgers won't score enough runs. The Padres are having issues with the Cardinals' lack of pitching. The Cards don't have any pitching, or do you think Jeff Weaver is going to win a World Series game in Yankee Stadium? If you believe that, there's a bridge in Queens I want to sell ya.

Actually, the Royals have made the playoffs six times in my lifetime (1977, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1984, 1985). And the Royals didn't have any trouble sweeping the Tigers last weekend, in Detroit no less. So why is so hard for the Yankees and $2 gajillion payroll to do the same?

And when people are saying the Yankees will sweep, well, what do you expect? Eat some crow buddy. The Yankees have work to do. Hasn't been so easy, has it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we hear that in 2001 (team of destiny)? Then in 2003? And then in 2004?

I'm not sure if you guys realize it, but the shadows are closing in on the field in San Diego.
