You can't pin this on Randolph. You have to use Wagner in that spot.

The problem was not his use of Wagner it was his use of Guillermo fucking Mota again.
Why wasn't Heilman in the game to pitch to Spezio? Mota didn't put Pujols away with two out then walked the next guy.
Why is Willie suddenly in love with Guillermo fucking Mota?

Mota made Spiezio look ridiculous on two changeups. He should have thrown a third.

That's what I want to know. Suddenly Mota has become the Mets primary reliever other than Wagner? Why?

Well, the Cards with Chris Carpenter on the hill and Edmonds feeling good are a pretty good team.

Now, La Russa gets his three chump starters in front of the Red Sea to try getting two wins in the three games so that a hopefully sharp-next-time Carpenter can close this fucker out.

    One other thing.

If La Russa starts Weaver down 3-1, fine.

But otherwise, I think he should keep Weaver for a Game 7, or WS opener.

Weaver is a high-effort guy and I can't imagine him being worth a shit on short rest.

If the Cards win the Suppan and/or Reyes start(s), I get Weaver out of that Monday start.

If the series is staill alive, I start Carpenter Game 6 no matter what.

    Re: Spiezio.

Most pitchers will tell you that throwing a guy a third straight change-up is very, very ballsy, no matter how bad a hitter has looked on two in a row.

That was the real killer sequence. If Mota can just finish off Pujols there, or even bounce back after losing him (giving up a single to Pujols is far from the worst thing that can happen), things are set up perfectly for the Mets in the last two innings.

Now not only did the Mets lose home field advantage, they also burned up their bullpen, with no off-day or innings-eater starter to get it back on track.

That being said, I have a hard time believing either of these teams will beat the Tigers in the World Series, or even come close, for that matter.

Well, it looks like the Mets and Cardinals are playing for second place.
