    That's what the "A" stands for "Anti-Rod"

And if I remember correctly, the Yanks could have signed Beltran, but Steinbrenner didn't think he was worth the money. He was obsessed with getting the Big Unit at the time.

How's that workin' out for ya, George?

I'll stop then. I don't want to talk about the Yankees anyway. October in NY should be all about the Mets.

Oh, how I miss Beltran. It's great to see him actually play in the postseason, though.

You'd think people would stop making predictions on this thread, because like all of them have been wrong.

Oh, c'mon, if the Dodgers-Mets series went 7 games, I just know the Dodgers would've won 4 straight.

Well, except that was a five-game series. That never could have happened ... just saying.

Let's not get carried away now.

As the focal point of the Mets last year, Beltran was nothing short of awful. This year, with the likes of Delgado, LoDuca and the thriving Reyes and Wright surrounding him, he's suddenly great.

As the Next Great Centerfielder in the Bronx, he would have been an unmitigated disaster.

It's nice that he's working out for the Mets, but he's the most expensive complementary piece in baseball history this side of Mike Hampton.

As for the Mets tonight, fuck a buncha Tony LaRussa. But if the Cards can win tomorrow, I still like their chances of taking one in NY with Carpenter and Suppan...especially if Trachsel starts Game Seven. Eeek.

To be fair, 2005 was Beltran's first season in New York after playing his whole career in Kansas City, then a few glorious months with the Astros. There had to be some sort of a curve to adjust to the New York market.

And if I remember right, Beltran tried to play through nagging injuries last season. And then there was the pressure that came with playing up to that contract.

I wouldn't put too much into Beltran's 2005 season. This year is more like it.
