Considering how many Hall of Famers played on those four teams, yeah.

    1934 Tigers
(C/MGR) Mickey Cochrane, Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, Goose Goslin

    1934 Cardinals
Dizzy Dean, Dazzy Vance, Jesse Haines, (2B/MGR) Frank Frisch, Joe Medwick, Leo Durocher

    1968 Tigers
    Al Kaline, Eddie Mathews

    1968 Cardinals
Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Steve Carlton, Orlando Cepeda, (plus MGR Red Schoendienst)

    ***

    2006 Tigers
    Ivan Rodriguez

    2006 Cardinals
Albert Pujols, (plus MGR Tony La Russa)

    Big difference there.

I would say the same, but then, that would be to ask for a four-game series. And Detroit needs five to win it.

As a Cardinals fan, I hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Tonight's victory was a bonus. If they win tomorrow night against the photographer-pushing dickhead, count the Tiggers out. As I said in another thread, if the Cards' big guys start hitting, anything is possible.

Hey, I'd never suggest you STOP mocking spnited. Mock away. What the hell fun would it be if there were no mocking of spnited. But thanks for changing the sig ... because you didn't have to, and you did anyway, out of consideration.

    Rolen plays for the Yankees?

    That ought to help.

No. He was not part of the Greatest Lineup Ever Assembled, yet the Tigers won anyway.

Yes. All the Yankees needed was Rolen to beat the Tigers. ::)

Yankees had Jeter hitting in Game 1 and then no one in any game after that (Jeter, even, was only 3 for 11 after Game 1).

The Cards have Rolen, Pujols and Edmonds red hot.

    HUGE difference.

EVERYONE thought the Yankees were red hot entering the playoffs. EVERYONE.

The same deal applied last night that has applied to every playoff series so far.
Unknown or all-too-known starting pitcher who figures not to get out of the third inning? Pencil him in for a performance on the Christy Mathewson level, and mark his club down as the winner.
Since Jeff Weaver starts for St. Louis tonight, they have to be BIIG favorites to win game two.

Can someone explain to me how Brandon Inge, standing a good 10 feet off the baseline and getting run into by Scott Rolen (out of the baseline, by the way) can be called for interference with the base runner? To my way of thinking, the base runner shouldn't have been closer to the dugout than the baseline.

    But what do I know?
