Won't the almighty Tigers become the greatest chokers of all time when they lose the next two games?
After all, AL Central, the greatest division in the history of baseball!

Floyd Rayford. Wasn't he the Orioles third baseman quickly supplanted by Craig Worthington?

I've never seen the tourist trap you're talking about. I usually see the 100 CARDS FOR FIVE DOLLARS!!!! cases with a vaguely recognizable player--you know, a Gorman Thomas 1986 Fleer All-Star card or Don Mattingly's 1988 Topps All-Star card--on top to sucker you into believing you're going to find a gem among the five-cent commons. Presumably, there are no gems. :D

Further proof of how worthless this World Series is:
This thread has degenirated into a discussion of discounted 80s baseball cards.

Nah, it would still prove how uninspiring this WS is.

Spnited has a fine collection of John Rolfe/Sir Walter Raleigh tobacco cards.

P'shaw. Spnited's crown jewels are Tim Keefe and Old Hoss Radbourn Old Judge Cards.

    Keep it going, fellas.
The fact that the MLB Playoffs thread has now become the clearing house for lame jokes about my age simply serves to emphasize my point that this is a World Series with no buzz, between two boring teams nobody cares about.

I hear General Braddock was talking trash, too, before he marched across the Alleghenies.

Nah, the greatest chokers of all time would still be the 2004 Yankees, one strike away from a World Series sweep that would have turned A-Rod into an instant New York winner ... and then they collapse.

As for AL Central, it's kind of funny to see the taunts, even jokingly. White Sox won the World Series last season, then Detroit makes it there this season. Yeah, still the best division in the AL, no question.

True on the 2004 Yankees, Oz. The greatest and most enjoyable choke of all time.

But how is it the best divison in baseball can't beat the team with the fifth-best record in the NL..even with their "ace" cheating in more ways than we can count?

Not exactly sure how to explain that one away, but the Cardinals did win 100 (NLCS) and 105 games (World Series) the past two seasons, so they've been there before and had some measure of success. The difference -- and this is just my theory -- is that the pressure is off this time. No one expected them to do much, especially with how well Detroit played to get there and St. Louis limped in. The Cardinals seem to thrive in this role.

When the Cardinals won the 1982 World Series, they were underdogs to the Brewers. When they lost in 1985 and 1987, they were heavy favorites to beat a 91-win Royals team and an 85-win Twins team, respectively.

Just seems to be the Cardinals' history in the World Series in the past 25 years. Best theory I got.
