If the owners are serious about getting off some money, maybe. I'm hoping they make a serious run at Andruw Jones, who still has plenty of years. And a big-time starting pitcher, someone anyone. Of the five in the rotation now, only Hill is a keeper I think. Patterson can't stay healthy. Chico has some promise but he's WAY over his head now. Bergmann isn't a bad back end guy.

I like this Flores kid they got from the Mets in Rule 5, though he'd clearly be better served by actually playing somewhere.

All five starters got bombed in round one. In the next 22 games, starters gave up three or fewer 18 times. That's pretty good. That's good enough to be .500 but this lineup lacks punch. Ryan Church is hitting cleanup. Say no more.

Rant over. For now. To answer your question in short form: I fucking hope.

Ryan Church has some pop in his bat though, would you rather slide Meat Hook or Zim in there?

Andruw Jones is going to cost a shitload of money. He's worth more than Soriano, right? I mean, you get corner outfield power and one of the best defensive centerfielders the game has ever seen. He has his downsides, too, but who doesn't?

At this point Ryan Church may be the most underrated outfielder in the game. He's not an all-star player, but he's very good, and the best National so far this year. Good defense, good athleticism, and he can hit. All things Ryan Zimmerman used to say he could do.

Most underrated? Unlikely, but he is a very very good outfielder.

I don't dislike Church. Cleanup? Uh, no. And he's a better outfielder than people think. That doesn't make him good.

Yes, A. Jones will cost a shitload of money. Well? So what? Spend it.

    That's right.

Without health problems, that's how good he is.

Never up for debate, but you can pretend that it is.

What do you mean, 'they don't catch on'?

Entering today, he had allowed three earned runs in 11 2/3 innings after the fifth inning.

Yeah... that was one hell of a deal they pulled off, after "catching on".

Note to Nats fans: Andruw Jones is not your savior.

He can carry your team, at the plate and in the field, but keep in mind that he'll still hit .260 and flail at 100 curveballs out of the zone every year. Better to save your money ... and let the Braves keep him, pretty please.

'Cause, well, he's also added about 50 wins to Maddux and Glavine's career totals as one of the top 5 defensive center fielders of all time.
