Oh, now we're going to rip him for every homer that doesn't help the Giants win? I really need to find a few minutes to find out their record this year when he hits one out. He's been a big reason that the Giants aren't complete dogshit...just mostly dogshit...

    Barry "A-Rod" Bonds? :)

Seriously, though, it was nice to see Mr. April get back to swatting insignificant dingers for the Yanks. ;)

ARod can go 0-for the rest of his life in October, as long as he ends up ahead of that asshole on the HR list.

Oh, and don't you think for a minute, with all the sturm-und-drang about Aaron not being on hand to watch Barry break his record, that Bonds will be there for ARod.

I am wishing a season-ending injury on that prick more than I am on Beckett.

At what point do the Jays do something about their skid? And what do they do? Who goes?

Gibbons is - and always has been, in my opinion - a piss poor namager.

JP never addressed the bullpen nor acquired a remotely decent starter in the off-season. And then, in spring training, he lied about BJ Ryan's injury; saying it was his back, when he knew it was his elbow. Not to mention he overpaid for the unproven - and now injury prone? - reliever in the first place.

A seven-game skid? With that offence? Please.

Some of this is unfair. If Ryan were healthy, their bullpen would be no worse than anyone else's. Take away Papelbon, Rivera, Nathan, Wagner etc. and veryone moves one seat over, no team would look very good. As late as the off-season, many people were saying that of all of the signings, that was the good one, and in the market that ended up developing, it's hard to argue otherwise. He hadn't been injury prone before, and pitchers are dangerous, so you can never pay them & stink, or you can take your chances - this seemed like a pretty defendable chance to take.

The Jays middle relief is awful. Ryan would have been useless anyway because the pen wouldn't have been able to hold any leads.

And he still overpaid for him, I don't care what anyone says. And sure, they were forced to pay it, because, at the time, the Red Sox likely would have gone after him.

Overpaid for Ryan? Sure. But unproven? He was coming off consecutive outstanding seasons in Baltimore, the first as a set-up man and the last as a closer. And last year, the move paid off. Ryan was one of the top closers in the game. Then he got hurt. That's the risk with investing so heavily in pitchers -- they get hurt too often. But to paint that move as a disaster now in hindsight after Ryan pitched so well in 2006 is a bit unfair to Riccardi.

Edit: Guy beat me to it with similar points.

    RE: Junk Jones.

There were more than a few frosty conversations between him and Gardenhire in Minnesota about his inability to pull a ground ball to second to score a run.

In other words, your eyes do not deceive you: He really is that bad. His stats manage to look decent at the end of the year, but I hated him for the entirety of his Twins career.

    Now he's ya'lls problem.

And Josh Beckett's 7-0 start is keeping all four of my fantasy teams flying high.

The only people who defend him surely don't watch him every day.

And, switching gears, come on ... It's Maddux v. Smoltz tonight? No one else excited about this?
