Oh, since the Yankees pitching staff is full of Cal Ripken Jr.'s, indeed there is plenty of time.

Look, don't get your panties in a bunch. I don't think they'll catch you. I don't think they'll make the playoffs. At the same time, I don't see any way Boston plays .700 ball the rest of the year.

    Point taken.

I still think the Yanks will go on a run in August or so. But I think they'll fall a few games short of the Dance and Torre will be gone in the fall.

As doubledown noted, you don't pay $55 million hoping to "luck out." Maybe Moore simply saw something that others didn't.

I'm so glad you have the thing about being a New England homer in your sig. We could have never figured it out otherwise. :)

I think a few teams saw the potential for good things. The Royals just decided to overpay because that was most likely the only way they would get a free agent they wanted in such an insane market.

Not to mention, want to go to Kansas City. He would probably settle for less to pitch for a winner, which is why a team like the Royals probably needed to pay more, regardless of who they targeted in the offseason.

I debated starting a separate thread for this or throwing it somewhere on the j-topics board... but this is a truly horrendous bit of writing that appeard in a New York City paper this morning:

The final base on balls was issued to Carlos Delgado, and it was a two-out, bases-loaded, full-count, game-winning walkoff walk.

Apparently "Wuertz walked Delgado with the bases loaded to end the game," was too simple.

Meche is trying to rebuild the Royals one start at a time

I've been hearing/reading this from many outlets (not just SportsJournalists.com ;) :)) ... usually with the reason being "They've done it before."

Seriously, does what happened before effect what happens now? Maybe the Yankees will make a run, but they've been exposed as having little quality depth (Melky Cabrera? Doug Mienkewitz?), a brittle starting staff and an imploding bullpen. These are not recipes for success.

The one caveat: I'm sure the Yankees will try to add to their roster via a big trade(s).
