Final line on the Toronto Blue Jays 22-year-old rookie right-hander Jesse Litsch, who debuted last night: 8 2/3 IP 4 H 1 ER 3 BB 1 K

Maybe, just maybe, there is hope for the future in the T Dot.

    Good.

But you can't get by for any long stretch in MLB with 1 strikeout per 9 innings.

C'mon, the throw beat Shannon Stewart by six feet. In most umpires' minds, that's enough. Replays show the tag was a split-second ahead of Stewart touching home, as well.

Exactly. Since when did umps care about tags when the throw beats the runner by that much?

I read about it in the Star this morning. Dude must've had a dinner reservation or something. KC should've drove in Pena in the ninth, or managed to get a fucking run home in the 10th with one out and the bases loaded.

I'd like to see some stats on guys who struck out fewer than 3 per nine innings and pitched more than 500 innings over a career. I checked on a few players. The best I could find was Joe Magrane, who threw about 1,100 innings with 560 or so Ks.

Mike Maroth is about 2Ks per game. 842 innings. 407 strikeouts.

Overall record 48-60, but 33-29 over the last four years (well really three, since he missed most of last year).

Hate to tell you this Hank, but 407 Ks in 842 innings is about 4.5 per 9 IP

I looked up Jamie Moyer just for the heck of it. 2,024 K's in 3,405 innings, one about every 1.7 innings. Bringing delight to kangaroo courts around baseball.

Yep. I looked up Moyer, too. I also looked up Glavine. Any chance that he'll have the lowest Ks per 9 of any 300-game winner? That would be fairly remarkable.

Grover Cleveland Alexander averaged 3.8 K/9IP, won 373 games from 1911-1930

Two others before 1900..Charley Radbourne (309 wins) and Mickey Welch (307) averaged about 3.5K/9 IP

    Glavine's around 5.4K/9 IP
