Red Sox won't trade Manny because you simply can't replace that bat. Besides, the Red Sox main priority right now is building their bullpen.

I always thought it was Manny, not Ortiz, who is the key to that team.

How many pitches would Ortiz get in big situations if all he had was JD Drew behind him?

Sox would be crazy to trade Manny. Crazy.

From David O'Brien's blog on AJC.com:

For the Braves, who have plenty of other needs to fill, including starting pitching, that payroll issue was decisive, even if they’ve got about $35-40 mill coming off the books after this season with expiring contracts and the trade of Teixeira, and the significantly reduced salaries for Smoltz and/or Glavine if either is back.

(By the way, the Braves don’t have the $50-plus mill coming off that I heard some guys on the radio talking about today — those folks just counted the $15 mill Hampton salary and $7 mill Kotsay salary, etc., without even considering what amount of those salaries the Braves are paying or what Smoltz might get, etc., not to mention the raises for McCann and others who are arb-eligible, which will eat into some of that amount that’s being shed. It’s just too early to get an accurate amount yet.)

If Tim Hudson’s elbow requires “Tommy John” surgery, as everyone fears, that opens a huge void atop the rotation, and that’ll be an expensive one to fill with an established starter.

Unless something changes, it's been reported that Greg Maddux would accept a trade to the Dodgers, Angels or Dbacks and that he, indeed prefers to stay on the West Coast. The Padres tried to see if he'd be willing to go beyond the West, but oh well.

Dodgers, I think, are the frontrunner, but with the Dbacks demoting Micah Owings today, maybe not?

Tigers trade future hall of famer to Yankees. Good grief.

    Pudge to Yanks for Farnsworth.
    Yeah.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, they are going after Jason Bay, but the Pirates are pessimistic about getting a deal done. It sounds like Pittsburgh ownership wants somebody to clearly overpay for Bay or they are just going to keep him.

As opposed to underpaying for Nady and Marte. Idiots.

    Yep, for Kyle Farnsworth.

So do the Tigers just put Inge back behind the plate, or trade for one of the Rangers' four catchers?

This trade came out of nowhere. Wow.

That is insane! The Tigers obviously feel there is no hope of a playoff berth this season.

Wow. Not sure how I feel about this.

Farnsworth had actually been doing really good, that said, he could implode at any moment.

I haven't actually paid attention to Pudge this year, how is he doing?
