Stabler, I thought the Braves were paying all of Hampton's salary this season. They'd been getting help until this one, I know, but I thought they were on their own this season.

Re: Tigers trade future hall of famer to Yankees. Good grief.

I don't know how you can be anything but happy. In the last week, they added a solid right-handed bat, a quality left-handed set-up man and a catcher who is no longer great, but can still play. All it cost them was an overpaid reliever who is due to implode any day now and four prospects who are second-tier at best.

I put those together because getting Marte probably made it easier to deal Farnsworth.

I did, too, at least once he actually threw a pitch. I know insurance covered most of it if he didn't, but now ...

All that said, I tend to trust DOB on these things.

Doesn't have the Royals god-awful decision of trading Jermaine Dye for Neifi Perez. This list is failure.

"Jesus Christ." "Holy shit." "Oh my god." "Wow."

Really? Rodriguez for Farnsworth? We're not talking Vladimir Guerrero, Torii Hunter and Mike Napoli for Wilson Betemit here, folks. You'd think the world ended. This is a pretty equally-useless trade in my book.

I guess the Rangers were asking too much for Laird. Can't blame them — the Rangers, that is, for holding out for one of the Yankees' stud arms.

They can let Pudge walk or they can let Giambi walk (though there are whispers they might be able to re-sign him at a pay cut because he wants to stay), move Posada to first (something they've been thinking about for awhile now) and try to sign Pudge.

And it looks like some Red Sox fans don't understand how to run a team that just lost its starting catcher for the season. ::)

Not sure what you mean here.

They didn't trade a prospect, they traded Kyle Farnsworth. Add in that the Yankees don't have any catchers in their system and their starter was just lost for the year and it seemed pretty obvious the Yankees were going to make a move.

As an aside, does this mean Hughes goes to the bullpen when he comes back? Or does this give credence to the Melky Cabrera plus prospects for Washburn and Putz?

I would disagree when you consider Pudge is hitting .295. That's not a bad bat to add to the lineup in exchange for a reliever who has a history of melting down.

I think the Yankees plan to make Mark Teixeira their first baseman next season. God knows where Jorge will get at-bats. DH and backup catcher, I suppose.
