In Pittsburgh, he is as close to a superstar as it gets.

The only superstar on the Pirates is Mr. Zambelli, who brings the yinzers their beautiful fireworks.

    An average hitter? That's laughable.

Damn. I'd always hoped to see Junior on the Northside. Always been one of my favorites. The Fukudome/Edmonds discussions made it practically impossible, though.

    Just more dipshittery.

It will pass... like a kidney stone.

Well, I will say this: Jason Bay is not Manny Ramirez and those acting like he is going to replace Manny's bat are smoking something I want.

Even this year, in his age 36 season, Manny is hitting .299 with 20 home runs and 68 RBI.
Jason Bay is hitting .282 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI.

So, maybe Bay isn't average, but he's not a superstar either.

Nobody said he was, but spnited's characterization was just as far off.

Bay had two big years ... '05 and '06.
He's a liftime .280 hitter who hit fucking .247 last year.
He strikes out nearly twice as often as he walks.

    Pretty average.

Dude.... last time I checked, those stats pretty much match Manny's. And Manny is declining.

Now, he may be a guy who loves toiling in anonymity in Pittsburgh and will shrink in the AL East glare ... or the opposite may be true.

Just agree with us that the claim that he is "an average hitter" is horseshit, and we can move on.

OPS of .900+ his first four years in the majors.

    Aberration last year.

Back at his first-four-year average this year.

    You lose.

Manny is one of the 2 or 3 best hitters of his generation and still is twice as dangerous a hitter as Bay.

And say what you want about Manny's defense (lack of effort mostly) Bay is a fucking butcher in the outfield.

I said maybe he isn't average, but he isn't Manny either.
