Given what has already been learned, how can the Marlins blame the Pirates for this?

Report on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette website is the Marlins-Red Sox-Pirates deal is not dead after all and the Pirates have agreed on the prospects they would receive, which was one of the hold-ups.

I'd post a link, but the site booted me and now it won't load again.

Edit: If it really is dead, maybe the Pirates ruined it by taking too long haggling over the prospects.

And Manny is a worse outfielder than you.... in the wheelchair or out.

Check out Tex's stats with Atlanta in '07. He was brought in to give the club a lift in the pennant race and he gave the club more than it could have possibly expected. The rest, including injuries, was out of his hands.

You cannot go into an offseason presuming you're going to land FA starting pitchers. Especially if you're Pittsburgh.

I was dreaming that they were owned by people who spent money to improve the team.

They paid Matt Morris' entire salary last year ...

As much of a pain in the ass Manny can be, Red Sox need him. I don't think they can make the playoffs without him.

The newest NYC talk is the Mets are talkling to the Pirates about Ian Snell to use him in middle/set-up relief now and have him around next year as potential starter if Pedro is doen and/or Ollie Perez is gone.

They also apparently have some interest in Luis Ayala -- why they need a 1-6, 5.54 ERA reliever is beyond me

    Is the Griffey deal done?

Doesn't matter if you spend money, others will spend as much or more and have more to offer.

When Glavine hit the FA market, Philly did everything but make out with him. Brought him to the city, showed him neighborhoods where he could live, had players from the Flyers, Eagles and Sixers sell Philly to him, bought his wife some sort of expensive gift, wined and dined him.

He took it all in and signed with the Mets.

Quality starting pitching is the No. 1 commodity. Everybody wants it. Reality is Pittsburgh isn't going to be able to outbid the big clubs no matter who owns the team. If Pittsburgh got into a FA situation like Zito or Pavano, they'd be screwed for a decade.

Griffey deal is finished. White Sox and Reds have agreed to split the reamaining salary of this season and buyout his $4M owed for next season. Reds get RP Nick Masset and 2B Danny Richar.
