Yes, he accepted it earlier today.

Now I'm seeing more than one place that the Marlins killed the deal for Ramirez because they wanted $9 million from Boston, $2 million more than he is owed for the rest of the season. That is just beyond ridiculous and cheap, and it disproves some theories put forth earlier on this thread.

I've heard that the Marlins wanted $7M and two prospects.

Smasher, I agree they cannot co after the CCs in the free agent market, but I think they should easily get the Lowe's that are out there if they are willing to spend.

They may never have an ace, but you can make the playoffs without an ace.

Why the White Sox did the deal:

Top of the third yesterday, 2-0 White Sox, two outs, Jim Thome up, A.J. Pierzynski on third. Livan Hernandez goes 3-0 on Thome. Minnesota then elects to walk Thome to get to the chump behind him: Paul Konerko. Geez, I don't think the Twins would have done that with any other batter, including Juan Uribe. Of course, Konerko obliges by grounding out.

Konerko is starting to get into Andruw Jones, what-the-hell-happened territory.

Of course, with Griffey in center and Carlos Quentin in left, you are now free to drop the ball into left center field at will.

    Honestly? They can't.

FAs with options aren't going to KC and Pittsburgh.

My favorite part of the Manny saga is Alex Cora basically saying the ESPNdeportes reporter made up the quotes.

Again, you think Lowe is going to be cheap? Sorry, 93Devil, but I really don't know what game you've been watching here. It sure isn't major league baseball.

Once again the Pirates fold. I'm hearing Bay is gonig to the Rays for Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann.

That would be a great move for the Rays. Losing Brignac is tough, but there's some cover there. Niemann is surplus goods. With Price and their other pitching prospects, they can afford to let him go.

That's a great trade for the Rays. Their offense has been scuffling for awhile now.

If that happens, count me among those disappointed for a quality corner OF signed through 2009. It would be nice to get one of those young arms, but an elite shortstop prospect isn't something the Bucs have had on the farm in some time.

That's not a bad trade for the Pirates either, especially compared to their usual blunderings. Can you imagine Littlefield's pitch to the Rays? "Still have Greg Vaughn? Ah, just take him."
