And out West, we say ... holy shit, the Dodgers are such knee-jerkers to the Angels, it's laughable. It's like Bizarro World these last few years, compared to the previous 50.

Angels make a big deal for Hunter, Dodgers make a big deal for A. Jones.
Angels make a big deal for Tex at the deadline, Dodgers make a big deal for Manny.

    Crazy.

They had to catch that other team first.

Can’t believe the Red Sox were stupid enough to give him up for what looks to be Jason Bay + prospects. Terrible move on their part — terrible move by the Dodgers, who need another outfielder like I need six kidneys -- and terrible move by the Pirates, who once again give up their best player for bums-of-the-month.

Amazing.  Still can't believe that they pulled this trade off.

But, the fucking Dodgers? What caused Florida to drop out of this deal???

Manny's going to enjoy Hollywood. It's perfectly made for him and Mannyland.

On the plus side, it does get Pierre and Jones out of the everyday lineup.

    Just heard it like this.

    Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers
Jason Bay to the Red Sox.
Craig Hansen, Brandon Moss, Bryan Morris and Andy LaRoche to the Pirates.

Yeah, ESPN has that as well.

    That is wild.

I know Craig Hansen has sucked, but the Red Sox had to give up Manny, Hansen AND Moss to get Bay?

    Holy shit.

I really don't see how this makes sense for the Red Sox.

So the Dodgers outfield is now Manny, Matt Kemp and Ethier. Solid, at least offensively, Manny is terrible on D.

Is this a move the Red Sox would have been happy making w/out Manny's theatrics?

They get something for Manny, who they would have had to pay $20 mil to keep next year. Would they have done that even if he were as happy as Jimmy Stewart at the end of It's A Wonderful Life?

Bay can play. He's got a year left on his contract. He's younger than Manny. He's hitting .282/.375/.519 this year vs. Manny's .299/.398/.529. Bay's a better defender.

Red Sox don't lose much swapping out Bay for Manny. They lose in giving up a couple other prospects who could have been useful. But Bay for Manny won't change much.

Rays refused to give up prospect David Price, which was the right call to make.
