Roughy: Memory is a funny thing. First, I misremembered the year; it was 1970. Second, the deflection in OT came off the chest of Jay Isorik (sp?).

Third, I want to say it was a Shelstad in goal. There were, it seems, like five brothers stretching from the late '50s to mid-70s that came out of their frozen backyard. All went to Southwest. Checking with my sources now to find out.

The Shelstad that went to the U was good.

I remember some Edina/City Team game that went OT and a Doug Long was in the goal. He was shelled and was spectacular. This is going to bug me. Time to call dad.

    Roseau wins 8-2.

No word on Liriano yet, but Zeke, did you see that Forbes lists Carl as the wealthiest MLB owner? Good to know the Twins are in good financial hands!

Up next Hill Murray and Lakeville South. Rosie, you back yet?

Ink, if you have a family member who played a few (3-5) years later, chances are our paths crossed on the ice.

I'm back finally, what a DAY, I am beat!

Very, very glad to see that Roseau won. I will watch that game after Hill Murray vs. Lakeville South. Right now, with just over seven minutes left Hill leads, 3-0.

Oh yeah, MSHSL book. Yes, I have a couple of them, but they're downstairs. I'll get one in a bit and look up whatever that was that I was supposed to look up.

Since I live out of state and don't follow high school hockey as closely as I used to, can anybody let me know what Marshall's chances are of beating Warroad tomorrow? I know the 'Toppers are the higher seed (for whatever that means), but Warroad has a long tradition on its side.
FWIW, I would love to spend a year in Warroad and do a Friday Night Lights-type book. I remember reading a long Charles Pierce piece a while back about it, and I've always found that area fascinating. And all the Henry Boucha talk on this thread got me thinking about it pretty strongly again. Oh well, I guess we can all have our pipe dreams.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any scoop on tomorrow's game. Only wish I could watch it.

At the risk of outing myself (because I've told this story so many times)...

Many years ago, I was at the Civic Center for the afternoon session, and Warroad was in the tourney. At that time, I worked with a couple guys from Warroad, and before the game started, I ran into one of them. I was solo that day, and my co-worker invited me to come sit with the Warroad group. (I found out later he had a major crush on me.)

Warroad won the game and that was one of the most fun times I'd ever had at the tournament.

Hill won, 3-0. They will face Roseau tomorrow night.

It's been a long time since I've given this much thought to this tournament, but damn I sure wish I could be sitting in the Xcel Center for the next two days. I went one year when it was still at the Civic Center and caught the championship game (Grand Rapids won; can't remember who they beat, might have been Roseau). Then we stayed for the WCHA tourney, which used to run right after state. It was a great setup for hockey fans, but I'm sure the WCHA is much happier with its current format.
