I thought the show had the potential to be an all-timer, but it's been missing a gear for most of the season. I think part of the humor of the show was that the characters seemed to be constantly fighting against their "stereotypes", Phil not wanting to seem like a dork, Gloria being a screaming accent, Cam and Mitchell not wanting to seem gay cliches, Claire being uptight, knowing they were "being filmed" for the "documentary." Now they seem to embrace them.
The last few episodes, the humor seemed incredibly forced.

The biggest problem with Lily swearing, as we've learned by the examples of this board, is she didn't swear in the right context. It amazed me when my oldest said, "Oh, shit" at 2 that he knew the words, and that he knew to do it after dropping his toy truck.

Meanwhile, the other night my 9yo son declared at the dinner table: "You can't have a name that's a dirty word. Except Dick."

  3. I guess now that I think about it, you're right. Context didn't match up either. Oh well, just fell flat with me, and I'm the immature one in the family.

Just started watching this show, after hearing so much about good is it. Wife and I have been watching the DVDs. We're only about 7 episodes in.

I haven't read through this whole thread because I don't want to see stuff that will spoil it for me.

I would like to add that I've grown quite fond of Julie Bowen, who I don't think I'd ever seen in anything (that I remembered). I almost wanted to start a whole new thread on her and other "sneaky hot" actresses/celebrities.

But I'm not going to do that. :)

Julie Bowen was Adam Sandler's "manager" in Happy Gilmore, and she was also on the old NBC show "Ed." She is hotter than now than she was in 1995.

She was hotter on Ed than she is now, though. She's freakishly skinny now.

That's what I always knew her as before Modern Family.
