Lots of shows do new twists - would you have predicted this one?

Teen daughter of a failed politician gets pregnant ... hmmmmm ...

Next season: Hayley takes a shot at "Dancin' With the Stars."

  3. Holy hell gang. It's a half-hour comedy. I do believe your expectations are a bit too high. Anything more than expecting it to make you laugh is setting the bar too high. Do you look at the episode summary on info before you watch too?

Ah, yes, the "a show doesn't have to be any good" contingent of SportsJournalists.com checks in.

  5. Whether or not a show is good or not is subjective. What works for one person doesn't work at all for another. If we have learned anything from the thread, it's that, isn't it? So calling a show good or bad is kind of pointless. As for most of the critiques and people thinking the show "jumped the shark" because they made the hot chick pregnant . . . it's just a little comical, isn't it?

Look, a lot of people on here loved when Lilly, who I think is just really creepy, cursed. I thought it was stupid. Didn't laugh once, but that doesn't make this a bad show. Just something I didn't like.

Call me silly, but I would rather have "excellent writing" on the hour dramas, and have the half hour comedies entertain me and make me laugh. Doesn't have to be rocket science.

Let me guess, Dick, you missed this week's episode while shaving your chest for BBQ and beach season.

Lilly's role needs to be reduced or eliminated somehow. A definite show-killer, like any episode of the Soprano's with Tony's mom or Janice.

Tell that to Mitch and Cam.

Why can't they do both? One thing that set this show apart from others was it was clever and funny. It can still be funny, and if it is I'll still probably watch. I just prefer comedy shows to not have to lean on dramatic twists in an effort to bait viewers. The characters they've built should have enough to them to not have to rely on twists. But maybe I'm being too critical. Maybe I'm overanalyzing a simple comedy show. I still don't think this twist was necessary and can see where it appears to have jumped the shark.

    I still love the show...

The Mitch and Cam stuff is great. It's hilarious and heartbreaking and you care about both characters.

Yes, shows have twists like this all the time, but they usually come in Season 6 when the show is clearly on the way down. See Cosby Show, Growing Pains, Family Ties and a zillion other shows...

They just didn't need to do that here. It's completely unnecessary.

Maybe Jay's not the father. :D

I don't think the pregnancy is that far out of the storyline. One of the main themes of the show is Jay getting a chance to do the dad thing all over again, and being damn good at it this time (with both Manny and his grandkids).

The biggest fear for me is that I don't know if a baby has ever been introduced successfully into any sitcom.
