From the Emmys, Phil Dunphy puts two pics in the spank bank:

My favorite moment from the Emmys last night.

I've been happy in the past when they've gotten their due at the Emmys.

Last night, I thought something else should have won the big prize, quite possibly "Veep" or "Parks and Rec."

I thought "Modern Family" was nothing better than meh last season.

I read somewhere recently that they offered the Ed O'Neill part on the show to Craig T. Nelson, but Nelson's people were asking for too much money and after the show aired, Nelson just then found out about it and went nuts...

I love hearing about stuff like that. I read "Top of the Rock" recently, the book by Warren Littlefield about the rise and fall of Must-See TV and it was interesting to hear that Jami Gertz was offered the Rachel part on Friends and that for Monica, it came down to Courtney Cox and Nancy McKeon and that the producers were really split on which one to offer the job to. Some actor I'd never heard of was offered the Chandler part.

We DVR Modern Family, and like it very much.

But for me, it is not near Parks and Rec or Curb or even Veep or 30 Rock.

I read the book, and for me, Littlefield came across as a whiny guy. Everything that worked was because he thought of it, everything that didn't was the fault of someone else.

I didn't even realize Curb was still on until last night.

That, to me, is the epitome of uncomfortable comedy. Which does not necessarily equal good comedy.

  8. I think Craig T Nelson would have been a fantastic person for the cast, but I have no problems with Ed O'Neill in his roll. I just think they would have handled it differently.

I agree... Both would have been great.

Very true... Still a lot of really interesting stuff in there though...

Well, since he ended up on Parenthood, which is appointment TV for me, I'm glad things turned out the way they did.

That was a very funny first 15 minutes.
