Agree that last night's episode would have been in the C range before the end. One other thing that made me laugh really hard, though: Gloria's sister walking into the kitchen with the basket of laundry and asking, "Where is the river?"

The show is falling into a predictable, troublesome pattern:
    Dunphy plot: Aces
Jay/Gloria plot: Consistently decent with moments of greatness
    Mitch/Cam plot: Dire

Mitch/Cam last week had one of the great all time funny lines in TV. Lily crashed her toy car in the living room and Cam said,(paraphrasing) 'We always knew there was a chance she'd be a bad driver' Just a great subtle line, well delivered.

Eric Stonestreet (Cam) had a small but funny part in Almost Famous.

Who is the bottom, Cam or Mitchell?

Yes, that was great subtle humor. I almost felt guilty about laughing at it, but (at least in Microville) it's also almost universally true.

My son tells me that Phil was in 'Black Hawk Down." Hard now to picture him as a soldier.

I thought the birth episode was very strong. I thought yesterday's was pretty weak.

He was, and it is hard to picture him as a soldier.

He was also in one of my favorite zombie flicks, Dawn of the Dead.

I liked him on Back to You, which I thought was way underrated. Although just about everybody from that cast got their own show pretty quickly. I'm not a big fan of The Middle, even though I like Patricia Heaton, and I know Boss was recently canceled, but Josh Gad has done well with Book of Mormon and 1600 Penn isn't bad...

Hilarious. I watched the past three episodes last night, and that was easily the best line out of the bunch.

That was the best episode of a very mediocre, if not outright boring, back half of the season.

They need to focus on bringing the entire family together as often as possible.

Tonight's show had a "Wonder Years" feel.

I agree that this season has been very mediocre, at least by the show's own very lofty standards.

Last night's show was very good. The scene with Jay and Cam toward the end was very well done.

Considering the original concept and title, they do a much better job writing and presenting the "traditional family." Do Cam and Mitch really even like each other? And they aren't exactly the world's greatest parents. The novelty of Jay and the young wife and stepson wore off a long time ago, though Ed O'Neill still brings good performances the stories are lacking.

The Dumphy stories are generally the best, but it's getting to a She's All That level of silliness with Alex. We're supposed to believe boys her age don't notice her because she wears glasses and t-shirts instead of dressing like Haley?

We had a girl like that in my middle school, who was beautiful but completely overlooked by most guys. I went to the eighth grade dance with her and somehow people thought I could do better. By sophomore year of high school, she started dressing more fashion-forward (but, I want to be clear, not sluttily). Everyone took notice. By senior year, she was dating (and being cheated on by) the captain of the basketball team.

She went on to a very prestigious liberal arts school. He went on to flunk out of a lower-tier state school. Fuck that guy.
