That's why the repeats are still good. There's always something you miss.

Community is a superior show, in my mind, but Modern Family is like 1A.
Got on the Parks and Rec bandwagon in the first season and was so turned off by it, I didn't go back.
30 Rock is so uneven, it can go from top 5 to bottom 5 in a single episode.
How I met Your Mother has been pretty consistently bad this season, for it, but on its good days is a contender.
Don't watch the other shows and, now that I think about, I don't watch many 30 minute shows.

They did a very good job dialing Phil down a few notches. He's goofy but not unreal in the Dwight or Michael from The Office sense.

Mitchell and Claire are probably the least rounded out roles. I do like every child seems like a real person (with the possible exception of Manny).

    She's 20?! That is surprising.

Yeah, Burrell is at his best when he's acting like the dad who desperately wants his kids to think he's cool, but they've stopped short of turning him into a freak, which is important.

I can't believe I'm saying this, because I'm a huge fan of hers, but Julie Bowen is probably the least interesting character on the show.

I feel exactly the same way. But they really do need a neurotic straight man to balance Phil. And if the mom were another crazy person, it would be tough to sell that family as functional.

Very true. She does a very good job playing a stressed-out perfectionist mother of three, but the character is still less interesting than the others, but I agree it wouldn't work if she was as crazy as Phil (not in a bad way) is.

Jay, you should give it another shot. It's like night and day how much better it is than when it started. They really found their footing this season.

And she's pretty OK to look at.

I think her character is designed that way. Like Manny's is designed to be annoying. But Bowen is great. And a favorite scene had to be when she walked in on the video chat in her underwear and showed she doesn't look like any 3-kid middle aged mom.

According to these pics, she does look like any 3-kid middle aged mom:
