Despite the camera work and presentation style, you understand it's not a documentary, correct?

There's a difference between being funny and being stupid. I don't like shows that think stupid is funny. It was stupid to jump on the hood to stop a moving car. And as gorgeous as Sofia is, acting stupid isn't funny.
And, believe me, I don't over-analyze this stuff. I like to watch and be entertained, but being stupid isn't entertainment.

Did the fire the show's comedy writers during the offseason?

That episode was terrible. And they used the bit about the bird in the room last year. As well as Mitch not being able to use tools.

The nail gun to the wall was hilarious.

Comedy is not about the smartest thing or what is the most brilliant thought.

It really must be American to put something/someone on a pedestal and then tear it/him/her down. The criticisms are getting nitpicky. Think of the alternatives, Two and a Half Men? Original comedy was awful for a 10 year stretch.

Agree 100 percent. It's the best family sitcom in at least a decade, maybe two.

Last season was funny. Very funny.

Wednesday's show was not. Ed O'Neill's line about Vietnam was funny. The rest was 29 minutes of crickets. Sorry.

The did a bit last year about Mitch and tools.
    Jay: Was Cam the indian?
Mitchell: No! For your information Dad, we were actually doing a little construction at the house.
    Jay: Oh. What'd ya build?
    Mitchell: Ah...a gift wrapping station.
    Jay: And we're back.

    That is funny. Very funny.

They also had a scene last year where a bird terrorized Mitch in the house. They did it again Wednesday.

The scene with the station wagon was dumb. Anyone here a parent? If the kid in the middle seat is sick, the first thing you do is get him out of the car. Not the silly slapstick that ensued.

Modern Family was built on sharp, witty writing, not buffoonish slapstick.

And the alternative is not Two and a Half Men, it is to turn the tv off.

That's why I found it funny, because you already knew of Mitch's built in terror of birds.

The look on Ed O'Neill's face after that line was priceless.

Exactly. I started howling as soon as I saw Mitch stick his head out of the window of the castle.
