    Sirs, Madames,

With one American poll reporting, the early results in Nicest City in North America:

    1 vote: Charleston WV
1 vote: Wherever Mr Bostock hangs his hat
    4,000 votes: Gander Nfld.

FotF, I'm not going to argue that people are nice in Canada. I've only posted my experience.

When my wife and I sat on a bench in Montreal and some dirty shirtless guy comes out of the subway walks over and spits out blood causing my wife to flip out, start to get away and the guy starts to follow, I'm not going to consider it a "polite" city. When I block the guy off and he starts yelling at me in French I'm not going to consider it a "polite" city.

When I go into the subway in Montreal and ask the price to travel from Olympic Park back to where I was staying and the subway guy says $2 in one of the most crude manners possible, I'm not going to consider it polite.

I had a good time there, but I wouldn't rank the location as polite.

I'm cool with Canada having the most polite city. Hell, I'd be cool with them having the top 50 polite cities. I just won't argue that it is true when I personally haven't experience any out of the ordinary politeness in a city that ranks number 5.

Right. One vote. But on a purely qualitative assessment such as "most polite," I can't rank a city as top 5 nicest in North America when my wife is almost assaulted for the crime of sitting in a park with me. Sorry.

FotF, why are you being so confrontational?

Wow. I'm really feeling that renowned Canadian warmth and politeness right now.
