It's actually really, really well-done. They did their homework on baseball and baseball clubhouse culture.

I liked the daughter role. I don't remember that ever being talked about in the book, so I'm glad the movie told me something I didn't know about Beane.

Tired of this stock character being used. This is not the first sports movie to force it and won't be the last. It isn't cute or interesting.

And she has nothing to do with any of this.

In "Trouble Along the Way," the 1953 John Wayne footballer, it's the annoying daughter who says,

"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."

It's a hit (at least so far): $20.6 million this weekend.

Like the goofy hippie daughter in the disaster of "Secretariat."

Oh, and Apollo 13 was on earlier tonight, and I kinda half-watched it (since I've already seen it 500 times), but one of the most annoying things in that movie (which overall I loved) was Jim Lovell's goofy teenage daughter. (He actually did have a daughter, but she was almost 20 and not ditzy).

    A few things:

Beans watches the games, but he watches them on tape after he knows the result. Says it allows him to make evaluations that aren't based on emotion.

I've talked to DePodesta a few times and I believe that it was really the character, and not the actor, he objected to.

Finally, the stuff about Beane's job being on the line was totally false. He has walked on water in Oakland for most of his career.
