This is probably old news, but Beane doesn't watch the games live? Seriously?

So, what does he do during the game? Does he just go home?

I've never heard of such a thing.

If I were an A's fan, I'd be upset that Beane seems a lot more interested in going Hollywood than assembling a competitive team. How many years has it been since they developed a star player? Miguel Tejada 15 years ago?

If he were interested in "going Hollywood" he would have taken the REd Sox offer. But I do wonder, how did Michael Lewis get access to the A's like this?

He actually did then backed out.

I think he knew he would have to deliver in Boston or he would be ushered out. At least in Oakland he can blame the "fifty feet of crap" that separates him from the 'poor teams".

How many general managers have survived five straight losing seasons?

He was also in Oakland when he had Hudson, Zito and Mulder at their best. A staff of aces can make a lot of people look like geniuses.

Oakland isn't exactly a tiny market.

Lots of small markets are winning. Beane has not come close to replicating his first run of success. He can't skate on it forever.

Are their drafts bad? I'd be curious to go back and track their picks compared to, say, Tampa Bay's or Minnesota's or Milwaukee's.
