Nice to see the reader comments taking the side of the reporters, especially against a winning coach. Surprising actually.

Maybe the reader comments, but local message boards are skewering the kids for further propagating the issue and piling on. These people are so naive and stubborn it almost belongs in a sociology book.

That's my call for someone to write that book and save themselves from this crumbling industry.

Of course, it is mostly Montana State fans who are praising the kids. That's a nasty rivalry, as is Idaho and Boise State. A bunch of pomeranians fighting over a Frito.

Hauck's never been super popular with Griz fans in general. Chokes in big games, is kind of a douche, etc. They're very lukewarm about him. Course they're crazy for the team, so I imagine they're torn in two ways on this story. Don't want to see the players' dirty laundry aired, but kinda enjoying seeing Hauck with his knickers in a twist.

And it's a way nastier rivalry than Idaho and Boise State, having seen both up close and personal.

Yeah, Hauck really isn't a Montana kind of guy. More Seattle or L.A.

I'll take your word about Montana-Montana State trumping Idaho-BSU as you have more experience than do I with the former, but having seen a few really good rivalries up close and personal, I have seen some of the most ridiculous shit ever from Idaho and BSU fans. That said, I have a feeling Montana folks are capable of taking it to special levels of "fucked up."

Aside from the fact he's from Big Timber, Mont., and went to school at UM.

Jeff Pearlman takes him on. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/jeff_pearlman/10/23/hauck-protest/index.html

Mike Gundy thinks Bobby Hauck should have big-timed them in the post-game presser.

It's a student newspaper. Hauck wouldn't have pulled that shit off with Loopy, Whitlock, et al. It's fucking bush-league when coaches from Geno to Gundy to Hauck thinks they can bully student reporters and local press all because they're doing their job, and in most cases, ask good questions about how the team plays, coach's decisions, et cetera.

    Very nice job, Jeff.

    And well-deserved.

    Interesting.

The coach at my FCS alma mater has written two columns for my former college newspaper this season, a preseason and a midseason report.

I'm also pleased to report that my alma mater's head coach coached circles around Hauck in their only meeting, in a somewhat important game, and kicked his ass without the benefit of one single FBS transfer, and only one JC transfer (a punter who did not play) on the roster, staples of Hauk's tenure at Montana.

That's one way to ensure good coverage.

I know his lineage. Just noting he's more like Rick Neuheisel than Don Read.
