    Dog Eat Dog,
Those are 5 days per quarter, not weeks. So, using your example, that would be $9,500. Still, nothing to take lightly. For some, that amount adds up to 9 or 10 mortgage payments over a 4-year span.

Question for any legal eagles ...

If an employee is on salary, a week's worth of his or her pay is simply deducted evenly from every paycheck through the quarter, and he or she is asked to take five days off at some time during the quarter.

So let's say an employee is "let go" at some point in the quarter BEFORE he or she has taken any of his or her days off. Shouldn't the company be required to pay that employee for all the pay the company deducted that quarter?

After all, the pay was deducted under the sole assumption that the employee would be taking a week off, but since the employee never got the chance to take the week off because he was canned, I believe the deducted money should be returned to the employee. (Of course, it was not.)

I would guess that nationwide over the last 4+ years, the company in question has "let go" hundreds of salaried employees before they took their furlough days that quarter, resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars that should have been paid to the employees but instead went into the pockets of corporate suits and Alabama retirees.

And I'll bet the vast majority of salaried employees who were "let go" in this fashion never even thought about this money that had essentially been stolen from them, because when you're canned, you've got a hundred other things to worry about.

Duh me. But, a good used car has just been taken back by your company.

Question: Would this be better than just giving everyone a 5 percent across the board pay cut?

Kato, thanks, I stand corrected. What a fiasco this is.

Unless they think you can live within that, then they'll take another 5. LOL.

Sure, then at least you're getting days off for your trouble.

But I've heard it's not even days off for salaried employees anymore. Can anyone confirm this?

Well, that is my thought, too. I'd rather have the days off.

Bitching about stuff like this is sort of like complaining about snow in Minnesota or summer heat in Texas. It is what it is and no amount of whining is ever going to change it. If getting things off your chest makes you feel better, go for it. Otherwise, either accept it for what it is and make the best of it that you can. Or, if you find it unacceptable, get out and do something else somewhere else.

Mark, I think that's what people on here are doing...getting it off their chest. It's fine to be frustrated and it may be hopeless. But there's not a whole lot of options, so just flippantly quitting to go do something else isn't as easy as you make it seem.

Whining is our new national pastime.

No, Mark. Our new national pastime is fucking over dedicated, hard-working employees with chronic disdain and utter disregard to their loyalty and extra effort.

Runner-up is being an internet douche.
