Mark, like love and hate, there is a thin line. Sometimes you have to cross it, but in general, you don't and shouldn't. In my opinion.

Think of it as an extra vacation.

I try. But it's extra vacation that you don't get paid for. Don't forget the extra work that needs to be done immediately before and immediately after the furlough to make up for that day off. Oh, and you'll probably have to pick up someone else's duties while they're on furlough.

But other than that, yeah, livin' the good life.

Just trying to figure out how to celebrate that 100th furlough day.

Don't do the extra work. If it doesn't get done, blame the furlough.

This from what I hear is an option among departments and papers. Not the furlough but how you assess it. Some papers have gone to 37 hour work weeks with no "days off."

You poor folk should demand the guy who said signs were that this fiasco was ending were abounding. It won't end. It's damn clear they've integrated it into the system. And with cuts at various locales the last year, some managers aren't even getting the furloughs. They're eating them by covering for hourlies.

Word is, my shop is going to a paywall next month. Anyone know if this is a corporate-wide verdict?

My CNHI shop already went to "metered access" many, many moons ago.

Honestly, I cannot see the logic in this (not that there is any logic in the entire business). I stopped subscribing to a newspaper print edition almost five years ago because I could get anything I wanted online for free. Now you want to charge me for that access? You are going to be sorely disappointed to learn just how little of value you offer.

I am inundated by news and information. Not enough hours in a day to read or watch it all. If I'm going to pay you for some content, it damn well better be pretty remarkable. Like a talking chimp reading the news while masturbating, or something of the like.

Only you would pay to watch a chimp masturbate
