But it's not the same thing as having your own paper. The editor/publisher of the DS retired in March. I wonder if he had at least a hint this was coming.

We had our "this is what the websites will look like" seminar today. It doesn't look bad. Using TownNews. Whatever it switches to, it'll look 400,000 times better than the layout CNHI currently uses. Looks like it was designed by a fifth-grader.

Some CNHI publishers in the 10,000 or so circulation demo are being told they will soon move to 6 days a week, losing Monday.

Agreed on all counts. It's akin from going from a Model T to a Ferrari.

I left a CNHI paper for a job that better fits my needs... and it pays better as well.

So I'll ask out of curiosity: Is CNHI finally getting its act together with regards to other issues that I know affect the company (DOWOP, for one, and technology for another), or is the website change the only thing in that direction?

That's not completely a bad thing. I don't like the three days per week model that some shops have adopted. But the Monday papers are just tiny and it makes scheduling a hassle.

Furlough days still in place. No tech upgrade at my shop.

I'm sorry, I've been raking my brain for a little bit...what does DOWOP stand for?

That's corporate's acronym for, "days off without pay."

This is a sad sign of CNHI employees. Last post was July 13. They assume now you know there's another round of furloughs for fourth quarter 2014, which are simply a part of CNHI culture now. Glad the board and those poor souls have surrendered to it. Now, slave on.
