It was always a kind of "regular at the bar hitting on a younger waitress" kind of vibe, so yeah, I don't disagree with you. I don't think she thinks much of him, since he probably reminds her of shitty Boston guys she would see constantly while bartending, but Simmons might want to hire her anyway. I doubt Larry Wilmore thinks much of Simmons, but he's still pumping out podcasts for that network.

Her Fox show seemed to be... hot takes. / commercial / semi-flirty interview with that week's athlete / commercial / attempt at comedy.

Same as it would for any of us, I think. They hand you enough rope to hang yourself - then wait to see what you do with it.

She'll certainly spend less time beefing with management than she did at ESPN.

Meadowlark or not, I think the problem for Katie Nolan is that no one has ever figured out a successful format for Katie Nolan - including Katie Nolan.

She was the studio host of a couple shows, though. Towards what would the freedom be? More contempt for the subject matter and/or management and/or other people at the company and/or life?

Beadle's about as good anybody could be at hosting a show if not for those things. Maybe you could make those things a show. Contempt, with Michelle Beadle. I may in fact watch that.

Wow. That post is edging perilously close to "Bitches be crazy."

No one had more contempt for the tropes and cliches of late night talk shows than David Letterman. So he treated them all ironically.

Contempt can work as an approach to the material. Depends entirely on how its deployed.

Big time sports TV has probably earned some well-tuned contempt.
