I'm not just sure how someone like Katie Nolan can really monetize what she does, outside of a podcast or brief videos here and there. She certainly did monetize ESPN to seven-figures and more power to her.

We had an intern a few years ago who was, essentially, trying to be the next Katie Nolan. She puts out a lot of videos -- three or four a day, about a minute or two each -- where she taunts the same fan bases and tries to be funny. She's built up a Twitter following of about 25k.

However, she's not very funny and simply not as telegenic as Katie Nolan. She's just loud and uninformed.

Yeah, I don't really have a great answer for this either.

She's smart, she's funny, she's cute and likeable. She knows sports, but not in a way you can easily hang a show on (like Mina Kimes, for example), and she doesn't really do the strong opinion thing. She worked well in the role she had on ESPN, which was a podcast and regular appearances on shows like HQ... but HQ is gone and ESPN isn't going to pay big money for someone in a relatively minor role that doesn't bring some specific kind of value.

I would have like to have seen her late night show get a better run, but I'm not sure that's ultimately a winner.

Like I said before, I'd bet heavily she ends up in LeBatard's orbit with a podcast and whatever else they're planning. Not sure where she takes it from there, though.

    I keep thinking she's in her 20's. She's 34.

And lest we forget: The unmitigated disaster that was The Onion trying to do a sports show. Turned it off after five minutes.

Katie Nolan would have thrived in a different age, when being witty and vaguely famous was enough to let one subsist on a regular rotation of game show panels and talk show guest appearances.

I’d like to see her do something outside of sports. Think she might blossom if she was challenged to leave her comfort zone.

A random thought - so many people appear on each others podcasts I have expect a conversation to come to a halt when neither host nor guest can remember whose podcast they are recording.

DO: don't you think that's the result of journos unable to/uninterested in booking anyone but other journos? either way, it's numbingly dull.
