Jacques Taylor the new columnist? Well, I guess they had to make somebody a columnist.

There is such a thing as "designing" for the Net (html, flash, etc).

Well, the lack of width on a Web page, and how ads are on all sides, make it hard to do much. Seems like the main skills needed would be how to do a slide show or how to make sure the sound elements are working. The need for arranging a bunch of art elements in a pleasing way just isn't there as much. Reporting and copy editing skills, on the other hand, are pretty much the same skills in print or on the Net.

It's kind of been said, but Web designing and print designing are indeed two entirely different things; that's not saying somebody can't learn new skills, but one doesn't translate to the other at all, except having a good eye for things. Even the principles of cropping a photo, for example, are completely different.

That would be funny, but that move will continue to be impeded by people who think the solution lies in a better-looking paper front page, because we all know that leads to thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, more in over-the-counter sales.

  8. I got a big laugh out of this one.

  9. Good for JB...that guy's talented as shit

  10. At least something positive is coming out of this. If Jacques gets really pissed off, he'll tell Yates to go fuck himself.

word is that both Banks and Cowlishaw were not offered the buyouts because the paper deemed them too valuable to lose. Banks hit the silk anyway. Both went back in time and asked Dave Smith to intercede with management on their behalf. Belo Boys told Dave to go play another 18. Word is that DMN is offering to double Cowlishaw's salary if he stays on the sinking ship.
