Just the Daily News, or the other LANG papers as well?

Just the Daily News... I have heard. Nothing has been made official, but you talk to enough people, you start to get the idea of where the cuts are going to fall.

April 1995 = Singleton selling The Houston Post to The Hearst Corporation, not allowing a final edition to be published.

Same pattern, same plan ... this is so sad and so f-ing old, too. Maybe a thread or blog should start somewhere, develop into a "Last Man Standing: Dean Singleton and the Death of Daily Newspapers" saga and have people just pour out their stories. Think of how many people lose their jobs and how many other people (read families) that are affected by this pattern. The only family not affected is Singleton's.

BTW -- Dean, if you stop by this board (or one of your minions does), then I hope you take a good look at what you will be remembered for in this business.

And it won't be the money, pal. Remember: You can't take it with you.

Daily News folk, I hope and pray you find new outlets for your creativity. Writers and editors and all creative people are needed somewhere.

LD: Quit you're whining and think about the future!

Journo: OK, I'm thinking about the future.

LD: You don't have a future. You're job has been eliminated.

The hammer came down today. 22 jobs in the newsroom. Severance packages offered, six weeks pay, health benefits. If not enough people take the voluntary package, layoffs begin Friday. It could have been worse, I heard 31 jobs were on the block. That's just in the newsroom. More cuts throughout the building. I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.

So they give you less than 48 hours to decide? That might be the shortest buyout decision-making time in history. And not just in newspapers.

And wow, six weeks pay. How generous.

Wonder when was the last time that newspaper-gutting chicken fucker took a pay cut for the good of the company.

Talk to my wife. Seriously consider becoming a teacher. Spend more time with my kids. Maybe go to a Laker game as a fan.

Think they will get the number of buyouts they need before layoffs hit?

I know two people already took them. I don't know. I don't even want to speculate.
