Chris Schulte still keeps his job.

What happened with the Moms section that was supposed to drive revenue, because we all know moms will flock to IndyMoms or PhoenixMoms? Did they ever try citizen journalism (aka blogs)? I saw the DealChicken thing and wonder what second-hand concept is next on the list.

Rivals site if I'm not mistaken.

Gannett is the worst at stealing previously-thought of ideas and awkwardly trying to copy them.

This post is right on -- more so than a previous one regarding the recent Wal-Mart suit.

The Wal-Mart suit was filed by two women who had filed another, previous lawsuit against the company, and it really involved different issues and was far less clear-cut, in part because of the sheer scope involved with having 1.5 million plaintiffs and a company of international breadth.

None of that would be the case here, if it were to happen.

I live in a right-to-work state, but my girlfriend, who's a big-time corporate tax attorney for a major American corporation (OK, GE) says she was talking to somebody the other day who told her that 55 is the magic number. I don't know what would happen were I to get laid off, I love my job, and my company seems to like me, but I must admit I'm feeling slightly better as I move above that 55 mark. Don't know if it would ultimately matter, but it's a (slight) comfort.

I know of a writer at a major paper that has offered an older writer a very generous buyout in each of the last 15 years. They desperately want him gone and they've done everything they can to force him to quit. He's got to be in his late 70s or early 80s and he's survived several rounds of buyouts and layoffs because he's threatened to sue them if he's let go.

I know of another paper that had a similar situation (very well-known writer) that offered him three times what they were offering everyone else in a round of buyouts. I think he asked for five times what the others were getting, plus some deal with health benefits and they wanted him gone so badly they gave it to him. He had to be over 80. I think he got at least three years salary to walk.

It happens like that Mizzou. I think anyone would take five years salary and benefits to walk away from this mess of a business.

Oh, I completely agree, but it also shows you how scared some of these places are of letting older writers and editors go because they're worried about being sued.

Indeed. Owned by Mike Pegram (nickname Peegs), who started independent and went to Rivals.

And, the funny thing is that, most of the time, lawsuits won't happen.
