Have faith. If there's one company out there that could screw that up and open the door for a lawsuit, it's Gannett.

One of the Cincy layoffs was a "Moms Like Me" producer. I don't know what became of IndyMoms, but yeah when it debuted Gannett was treating it like was the golden goose. To me it looked like they thought it was the 1950s again and Moms just sat at home cooking and doing crafts with their kids during the day.

I was waiting for IndyDads with stories about golf and beer.

I got six weeks extra severance and two extra months of health benefits by threatening to sue over comp time.

Would I have sued? No way...

It's Gannett. They always have a nice new shiny object every six months. They browbeat employees over it. Then it's forgotten.

What has to suck -- and I have never worked for Gannett so I don't know this -- is when they browbeat you with something that you know won't work and will result in declining revenue and more layoffs.

Playthrough: Indy Moms creator was laid off as well. I could be mistaken, but I think the concept started in Indy and others adopted it.

To clarify, we currently have one opening: Ole Miss. Kyle Veazey gave notice in May and left June 10. The position remains open. Our Jackson State writer is a candidate for that position, thus in advertising the Ole Miss beat I also advertised for a JSU writer, because if we move Ross to Oxford, we'll need a JSU writer. In theory. Right now, we are taking applications and the job remains open.

It even got funny, at the Gannett place where I had worked, that the editors would even say, "Here's another initiative. Yeah, we know, you're rolling your eyes ... But we've got to do it."

Especially with all the cuts, layoffs, furloughs, etc., I'd like to see newsrooms just tell corporate to take their initiatives and shove it. Write a mass e-mail and have everyone sign it.

Are they still pushing that "real life, real news" and "mainstreaming" crap?

In my long career with many stops -- particularly early -- I never worked for Gannett. I worked for a couple of clunkers, but not Gannett, although I came close a couple of times.

    I can't say I feel deprived.
