Fourteen from Nashville, none from the newsroom. However they are axing 20 slots from the newsroom later this summer, a combination of open positions and live bodies.

And this doozy from the comments.

For whatever reason, this particular round of layoffs bothered me more than any of the others.

The publishers clearly went after a bunch of "lifers" in this salary dump. It's just not right.

I know the Fresno Bee isn't. I couldn't remember if my buddy works in Visalia or Tulare, which is why I was asking about the Fresno area.

Hell, none of it is "right". But it is what it is and I can't say I'm surprised anymore, especially with these clowns. How anyone can even begin to talk about qualities like loyalty and taking one for the team boggles the mind.

Spartan, Des Moines cut 13 including sports columnist Sean Keeler, sports reporter extraordinaire Dan Johnson, who covered everything from horse racing to prep sports, photographers John Gaps III and Arturo Fernandez (a good friend), and community editor Deb Belt. The Register didn't publish the names, but KCCI-TV did.

A lot of upset readers out here for the most part. Except for a few jackasses in the comment section after the Register's story on it.

Loyalty owes no one anything, and Mark is on point, no matter how it's done who is picked to be let go, none of it is "right."

Guess Des Moines won't be filling those positions they advertised for a couple of months back.

This was the Indy News Guild's response. It's damned good.

It should be pointed out that none of Des Moines' layoffs included copy editors or designers, which, as someone earlier on pointed out, would have made absolutely no sense at all -- as if these layoffs did -- considering its status as a design hub.

Profit margin targets or not - the fact is, Gannett's revenue has declined while executive revenues have increased.

That would actually save Gannett about $15 million.

According to Hopkins' blog, Dubow has a $19 million golden parachute, but "only" a $4 million life insurance policy.

    Just sayin'.
