I know a lot of folks down there. I'm hoping for the best... and fearing the worst.

More than 20 at Last Call. And counting?
So much for a round dozen. Or even a bakers' dozen.

If there was anything you could do, it's way too late now. It's carnage. Count the bodies.

I just saw a list and christ on a crutch *** I don't even have the words.
    Lots of great journalists.
    Lots of great people.
I have no clue how they plan to put out a product with all they are trimming.
And there was nothing I could do when I was there, which is one of the reasons I left. Damn sure nothing I can do now.

Last glance, I saw four in sports.

I'm now told there's a fifth in sports involved.

Holy crap. How many were in sports before losing five this week?

I'd have to count. It was 29 when I became SE and about 20 not long ago.

Lots of buzz there now because some of the group was called to one place, others to another. So maybe some are layoffs and some are reassignments? I'll post more as I hear more.
Those affected were sent e-mails yesterday, so they got to sleep on it. Managers apparently rolled out for a 6:30 meeting, leaving their troops hanging.
    More as I hear it.

Please allow me to add my voice (sort of) to the chorus of "THIS FUCKING SUCKS!!!!" in relation to the goings-on at what used to be Virginia's state newspaper before a bunch of clueless suits gutted the place.
When I moved to the Richmond area 17 years ago, the T-D was one of the places I aspired to work before ultimately writing books and getting rich and famous. I'm still waiting for any of the above to come true. At the rate things are going at the paper, I probably stand a better chance of reaching goal number two. ???

    False hope on the reassignments.
All gone and I'm told my number is low. Maybe as many as 28, maybe as many as 60 across the operation.
    Worse than I imagined.

I can only shake my head. What a crock.

The 28 reflects some more folks in photography, library and editorial. Not sure where the cuts are coming from outside the newsroom.
