Richmond unaffected by this round, thus far, at least as far as I know.

News clerk in Dothan (Ala.) was laid off, so just that one loss from the newsroom. Not sure if anyone from Opelika-Auburn was or not. Other smaller nondailies around there have had people leave that won't be replaced ever for now.

Said news clerk was pushing 65 and got the biggest MG severance you can get. Probably not as much as Graham Woodlief will get when he retires this June, but she didn't make off terribly.

It's gonna suck no matter who it is, but I really hope it's not my friend who's got a 3-week-old son.

She? I guess that would make it Liz Keller, the prep sports editor.

She's good people and, in my interactions with her, she knew her stuff. It's a shame -- the latest in a long string of shames.

Yes, it would be. GREAT kid (though she'd smack me for calling her a kid). I hired her as a PTer in Richmond and suggested she apply for the C-ville gig. Good paper, good boss, closer to her home and her fiance (now husband).
As she said to me, not much makes sense in this business anymore.

I thought local, local, local was all that was supposed to matter. So lay off the prep sports editor? Wow. No sense whatsoever.
