For one thing, Santo never watched the game, from what I understand. He could never shake the habit of looking at Hughes as he was speaking to him, like they were bellied up to the bar or something, not broadcasting a game.

Agree wholeheartedly. But I promise that those actions are not any more popular among White Sox fans, at least from my experience, than the anecdotes. He's popular in the way that William Hung was popular.

I'm surprised the Astros scored as high as they did. I catch their games now and then and always thought they were pretty fair. They take digs at the other team but they're funny when they do.

Not surprised the Jays' duo of Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler came up with a zero. They are pretty vanilla, call it down the middle. Rarely critical - unlike studio analyst Gregg Zaun - and don't cheerlead like such notable previous Jays' broadcasters as Fergie Olver and the woefully overmatched Rob Faulds.

Surprised the Red Sox duo of Don and Jerry (and presumably Wally) came up with a zero too. I like Don but always thought Remy was a homer. Sox do get credit for hot field reporters.

The other reason I'd like to see a survey of the radio announcers is that I'm pretty sure the White Sox would be No. 1 there as well.

The Royals would have been higher if Rex Hudler had done the game they watched.

While I despise Hawk Harrelson, his calls of walkoff losses are utterly priceless. One year, Alex Gordon hit a walkoff single, and Hawk's call was literally: "Base hit. (minute or so of silence) We'll be right back."

I have heard Santo literally cry on the air over the Cubs making an error during a game -- in June. He was the worst.

If they included radio John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman would go to the top of the list.

  10. Not by their criteria though. Those two never call the team "we," so you'd need a slightly more subtle way of tracking their relationship with the team. The Red Sox crew skated on that too since they don't call the team "us" but they do have World Series rings.

It's not Steve Blass of the Pirates as much as its Greg Brown, who borders on obnoxious with his screaming over the most minor of flyballs. And if a Pirate should so happen to hit a homerun or a run-scoring double, Lord help us.

You sure it's crazy and not something else?
