Most expensive dinner?

    Joe's is great but just painfully expensive. Plus you have to duke someone if you want to sit down in under 2 hours.

    The key is to go really really early, like right when they open at 5, I think, or really really late. And definitely don't go on a week when a big event like the Super Bowl or something is going on.

    I will not go to a restaurant that expensive that doesn't take reservations. One of the big reasons you pay all that money is to be pampered.

    Anyone ever eaten at Masa in NY?

    Spending a grand for sushi and drinks always struck me as particularly silly.

    It is what it is.

    There are better places, but for a steak with creamed spinach & hash browns, you'll leave happy -- and full.

    Personally, I'm nostalgic for Palm 2. Had my first "business dinner" there.

    Working as a clerk in the Gold pit for REFCO, our brokers took us all out to dinner there. I was 20 or 21. We ordered a shit load of steaks and lobsters. Drank like fish too.

    A great night in an old school, New York steak house.

    I dropped $500 Euro, or about $750 after tip on an eight-course meal at a castle in Ireland. Had a different glass of wine with each course.

    The chef came out and explained each dish when the waiter brought it. Worth every fucking cent.

    Next most expensive was about $300 at a Frankie and Johnny's in New York. Not worth every cent.

    Went to the Palm 2 last year for fiance's birthday (Wall Street buddy and wife paid!). We had, not kidding, 4-pound lobsters! Each couple split one. Between that and everything else he ordered (and he brought wine from his own cellar), I think the bill was about $400. Of course, that was for four people.

    Slightly different topic, but is anyone else here obsessed with OpenTable? Greatest thing ever, using it in every city. Love the points, the reward checks, the whole system. Click click click, there's your reservation. No more snooty phone jerks or sitting on hold for a half hour. Love it.

    21, I used OpenTable back in the day. I don't go to fancy enough restaurants to need it any more. :)

    I won't say I am obsessed, but I have built up a few thousand points, and I have never used them.

    How do they work? I also feel like a dork walking into a restaurant with a coupon (my issue). Is that what it is, you get issued a credit or a coupon and then you hand it over when you pay?
