Bern's is awesome -- number 3 on my steak list (behind Craftsteak and Del Frisco's) and not brutal on the prices. The wine list is just unreal -- every single bottle of good American Red that I've ever had is on their list

Took some client to a "tasting" at one of those high end restaurants called "Coi" in SF. About $150 a head without the wine. Took about 2.5-3 hours. A fun experience on an expense account, not sure I would have done that on my own dime.

Went to Oak Steakhouse in Charleston, S.C., a couple of weeks ago. Four of us, including one who is well connected in the food/bev industry in town. We each had a filet, medium-rare Pittsburgh style. Incredible. Great sides ... lobster mac and cheese, brussels sprouts, assorted sauteed mushrooms. They brought out a couple of appetizers ... steak tartar with a quail egg over easy on top, roasted duck breast in some sort of reduction, oysters ... and brought some foie gras to go with the steak. Melted like butter on top of the meat. We split four bottles of wine. Each had a digestif of some sort after the meal, and two of the people ordered scotches afterward. Was bracing for a bill in at least the $600 range for the four of us. The steaks alone were $40 a piece. Bill comes ... and it's $165 all told.

What a fucking hook up. You bet we tipped the hell out of our server. One of the best meals I've ever had. And the experience was second to none.

Shula's Steakhouse. Anniversary. Lobster was $80/lb. I spent well over $320 that night. Not a bad night. She is worth it :)

Are you a writer or an intern?

The writer always goes for the specials. The intern has his/her parents pick up the tab.
